PLOATECH is making significant progress in the NEXTMARINE project, developing a novel underwater imaging system designed to operate in some of the ocean’s most challenging environments.
The new platform integrates advanced imaging, lighting and localisation technologies into a compact system suitable for both diver-operated and robotic deployments.
During the first months of the project, laboratory testing confirmed reliable imaging performance, while initial field trials in Greece successfully validated the system’s positioning capabilities.
These developments mark an important step toward high-resolution mapping and observation of seafloor habitats, providing researchers with better tools to explore areas that are difficult or impossible for people to access directly.
